A cat missing for seven days after it escaped a car crash uninjured was reunited with its owners on Friday, Aug. 24, with some help from Wareham authorities.

On Friday morning, officers from Wareham Animal Control and the Wareham Department of Natural Resources met the owners Tihonet Road, near the scene of the crash. The owners had spent five days in the hospital following the crash, but returned with a “LoCATor” tracker. The device was used to detect a transmitter on the cat’s collar. During the search, authorities picked up a signal near Farm To Market Road and followed it to A.D. Makepeace headquarters.

On the property, the cat was spotted peeking its head out of a wall of one of the work buildings.

According to officials: “As the group was looking at the building the elusive cat popped its head out of a hole in the wall and meowed! Tears of joy streamed from the owners faces as they confirmed it was their beloved missing cat Gussy.”

An A.D. Makepeace employee let the owners and officials inside the building. Gussy was located under the floor of the building and was safety reunited with its owners.

“This search was nothing short of a miracle for the owners and none of us can believe where the cat ended up in relation to where the accident occurred!” a post on the department’s Facebook page read. “We could not be happier to reunite the owners with their beloved cat, safe and uninjured. Thank you all that helped!”
