Myles Standish family fishing derby postponed for Oct. 14

The Friends of Myles Standish will hold their annual family fishing derby on Saturday, Oct. 14, postponed from an earlier date of Saturday, Sept. 23. 

The derby will take place at Fearing Pond in Myles Standish State Forest. The event will be held rain or shine, and is free and open to all ages. 

Fishing starts at 10 a.m. and ends at 1 p.m.. Raffles, prizes for biggest fish and Myles Standish Photo Contest awards will follow when fishing ends. 

A good supply of fishing poles (over one hundred) will be available to borrow for free, and free bait will be provided.

A fishing license is not required. Experienced anglers will help novices. Reasonable accommodations are available with advance request to the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation at 508-866-2526. 

The pond will be stocked with trout by MassWildlife (if temperatures allow).  

Free parking is available at Fearing Pond day use area.

Presented by the Friends of Myles Standish SF, the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife and the Fearing Pond Cottage Owners Association. This will be the sixteenth year the derby is held.
