New bakery to open in Wareham

Jul 30, 2019

A cupcake bakery is coming to Wareham.

Cupcake Charlie’s co-owners, Penny Lessa and her husband and business partner Dan Lessa, asked for a common victualler license at a Select Board meeting on Tuesday night. They plan to open the bakery’s doors by the end of the summer at Wareham Crossing on 2421 Cranberry Hwy.

Besides cupcakes, the bakery will produce a number of other goods, such as cake pops, cupcake jars, cookies, whoop cakes — a version of the classic whoopie pie — and many more.

In addition to the new Wareham Crossing location, customers can visit Cupcake Charlie’s in  Plymouth, Falmouth, Foxboro, Mashpee and Newport. Unlike these locations, the Wareham bakery will also be serving 16 flavors of hard-serve ice cream.

“We are really excited about coming to Wareham, it will be our first store in the South Coast area,” said Penny. “We make cupcakes fresh every morning and in this way, we stand out from a lot of other bakeries.”

Selectmen also approved a one-day liquor license for the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce’s upcoming “Meet Me at the Tremont” event, which will be celebrated on Saturday, August 24 from 5:30 to 10 p.m. on 8 Elm St. in Wareham.
