New middle school principal starts July 1

Dr. Peter Steedman, principal of the Escola Americana de Campinas in Brazil, has accepted the principal's position at Wareham Middle School.

Superintendent Kimberly Shaver-Hood made the announcement at the School Committee’s April 6 meeting. She said Steedman will start July 1, but he will be in the area before then to learn more about the school and district.

“I look forward to bringing him to the committee,” said Shaver-Hood. “We feel we have an exciting candidate.”

Steedman will succeed Daniel Minkle as middle school principal, who announced his retirement earlier this year.

Steedman, a former principal at Sturgis West High School, a charter school in Hyannis, has served at the Brazil school since June 2014.

He also spent eight years as associate director of the Sturgis Charter School in Hyannis.

According to Steedman’s LinkedIn account (a business networking site), he began his career in 2006 at Sturgis Charter Public School. He holds a doctorate in general educational leadership and administration from Boston College.

As principal at the Americana de Campinas, Steedman oversees 700 students from 20 different countries.
