New school construction on track

Sep 10, 2021

Work at the new Wareham Elementary School on Minot Avenue is continuing apace, reported School Building Committee member Geoff Swett at the Sept. 9 School Committee meeting.

The terrazzo stair treads have begun to be delivered, and furniture deliveries are being scheduled.

Swett said the construction company is designating one of the most complete wings for furniture storage.

While the school is set to be substantially complete on Oct. 15, that date could be slightly later, Swett said, largely due to some change orders put in by the School Building Committee. None of the changes are structural or related to the safety of the building, Swett said. The tweaks are mostly related to aesthetics or measures that will help the building last as long as possible.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony that will allow the public to see the new school is in the works.
