New Wareham High School athletic director named
A new athletic director is taking over the reins at Wareham High School.
Marc Loranger, a physical education teacher and coach at Plymouth South High School will begin his work as athletic director on July 1, Wareham High School Principal Scott Palladino announced.
Loranger will be responsible for the oversight of 19 interscholastic sports programs and will teach up to three classes.
Athletic Director Tina Clark is stepping down from the position, but will continue teaching health an physical education at the school, Palladino said.
Loranger holds a bachelor of science degree in education and a master’s degree in education administration from Fitchburg State College. He is certified as a physical education teacher and an administrator.
Loranger has taught at Plymouth South High School for 17 years. He has coached the varsity wrestling team for each of the 17 years, has coached boys varsity track for 10 years, was an assistant coach for football for eight years, and was the varsity football coach for five years.
Loranger also teaches a leadership course and has done an administration internship under the Plymouth South Athletic Director Scott Fry and Plymouth South Principal Patricia Fry.
Loranger says his goals for Wareham athletics are to work with Clark to ensure a smooth transition, to keep the freshmen and junior varsity programs in tact, and to get more students involved in athletics. He also plans to hire two new fall coaches for the current openings on the boys varsity soccer and boys and girls cross country teams, institute a "meet the coaches" night each season, and start an athletic hall of fame.
"I have had the opportunity to admire Marc Loranger from afar. I have seen what he has done specifically with his wrestling program," Palladino said in a statement. "He has had a positive impact on 50 to 70 kids per season. Now as Athletic Director he will have a positive impact on 200 Wareham High School student athletes per season."
