Night 2 of Town Meeting to take place Tuesday night
Oct 28, 2014
A second night of Town Meeting will occur on Tuesday, Oct. 28 as several items still remain to be discussed following Monday’s events at the Wareham High School Auditorium.
Among notable approvals Monday were:
- to amend a town wetlands bylaw that allows the town to waive or reduce No Activity Zones to allow reasonable access to the shoreline for people who are handicapped as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act.
- to accept $165,000 in previously approved state funding and an $835,000, two percent interest loan to repair the Parker Mills Pond Dam, which will come from the state to the town’s Community Preservation Committee.
- to approve $45,000 to the Community Events Committee, who help promote several events in town.
Notable items remaining on the agenda for Tuesday evening include:
- a motion to end an expensive, 11-year debate where Selectmen will ask voters to “permanently restrict for beach and recreational use” the 5.3 acre property located off of Swifts Beach Road and Wankinco Avenue in Swifts Beach.
- a motion to make the Town Administrator in charge of personnel issues involving the future Sewer Commissioners, who will be elected in April (until then, the Board of Selectmen will remain in control of sewer-related issues).
- a motion making it easier to build new gas stations in town, something that is essentially impossible at present. The item is sponsored by Chris Gabriel, owner of Mr. Chris Haircuts at 2512 Cranberry Highway.
The second night of Town Meeting will take place at 7 p.m Tuesday.
