Nimmo declines offer to direct library

Jul 8, 2010

Maureen Nimmo, the hiring committee's first choice to become the new director Wareham Free Library, has declined the job offer due to family and personal reasons, Town Administrator Mark Andrews has confirmed.

Andrews announced at the June 6 Selectmen Meeting that Nimmo, currently director of the Lawrence Free Library, was unanimously selected by the hiring committee as the top candidate for the position, which has been vacant for over two years.

The library's last permanent director, the late Mary Jane Pillsbury, served the library for 35 years, stepping down in April 2008 due to health issues.

Then-assistant-director Susan Pizzolato was named acting director following Pillsbury's retirement.  Pizzolato took a position with the Mattapoisett Free Public Library in June 2009.

Council on Aging Director Marcia Griswold took over as acting director of the library following Pizzolato's departure.
