No tricks—just trunks and treats—at YMCA

Oct 22, 2023

Despite the blustery day, a lot of Wareham families came out to the Gleason Family YMCA’s Trunk or Treat event held on Sunday, Oct. 22.

Families walked between two rows of trucks collecting candy and admiring the decor. Multiple trunks had Jurassic Park displays or pirate displays, while others included Coco and the Mystery Machine.

Girl Scout Troop 84530 handed out candy from a trunk of their own. Next to it, Mike Salvesen had children walking the plank to get to his pirate themed display.

Salvesen said he was there supporting the scouts. His granddaughter was in the Girl Scouts, and his grandson was helping him with the pirate trunk. “You gotta take care of the kids, you know?” he said.

The children at the event had fun with the different themes. Anelise Merkman and Avi Gomes said their favorite trunk was a Christmas themed one; Amari Piers said he most liked a Minecraft-themed display.

The Gleason Family YMCA thanked the participants and those who stopped by in a message on its Facebook page, saying, “Such a great turnout today at our Trunk or Treat—it was a record breaker for sure!”
