Non-sewer user Sewer Commission seat wrongly put on May 6 ballot
The position for a non-sewer user to be elected to the sewer commission was wrongly put on the ballot for the May 6 election, according to Town Administrator Derek Sullivan.
In a statement emailed to Wareham Week, Sullivan said the position for an “at-large” member of the sewer commission should have been on the ballot, not the non-sewer user position.
The sewer commission consists of five members. Three sewer users, one non-sewer user and an at-large member, this person can be a sewer user or a non-sewer user.
The non-sewer user position is currently filled by James Gerberti whose seat is not up for election until 2027, according to Sullivan.
No one was on the ballot for the non-sewer user position during the election but one individual received some write-in votes. However, Sullivan said because the position was wrongly listed on the ballot, all votes cast are void.
He said the Select Board and Sewer Commissioners will appoint someone to fill the position for a year until the next annual election in a future meeting.
Anyone interested in being appointed should submit an application to the Sewer Commissioners.
