Onset Beautification Committee brings holiday cheer to Onset
Downtown Onset was festooned with color and cheer in anticipation of the holiday season Monday.
The Onset Bay Association’s Beautification Committee held its annual downtown decoration event Monday morning. Committee member Kathy Judd said the association has decorated Onset for at least the last 20 years, if not more.
“We put a tree and lights up, and fill the flower boxes with with greens,” Judd said.
Judd said the association pays for the decorations using residents’ donations throughout the year.
“The town also lends us maintenance guys for a couple hours and don’t charge us anything,” Judd said. “It’s good, because those light poles are hard to reach!”
The association used to be able to do a lot more, though, Judd said.
“Years ago, they had a little village and a little train in wooden cutouts on the bluffs,” Judd said. “But the volunteers and funds have dwindled. … We have very few volunteers as people get older, and young people are busy working.”
Judd said the association would also be doing Christmas in the Park on Dec. 12. For more information, visit the event page on Facebook.
