Onset car fire spreads to home
A vehicle fire spread to a two-story home early Friday, May 16 at 5 Woodside Ave., according to the Onset Fire Department.
Crews responded at about 4:51 a.m. after receiving reports of a fully involved house fire. The first units arrived four minutes later and found a vehicle fire that had extended into the residence.
Heavy fire conditions were brought under control by 4:59 a.m.
A five-member engine company led by Capt. Drum conducted fire suppression operations while crews simultaneously searched the structure. The response helped contain the fire and prevent further extension into the home.
The department said the incident demonstrated the importance of adequate staffing and rapid response times in limiting property damage and supporting firefighter and civilian safety.
The department also recognized its call firefighters and its partnership with Massachusetts Maritime Academy. Through the program, firefighters certified at the Massachusetts Firefighter I/II level volunteer for overnight duty shifts, helping strengthen staffing and emergency response capabilities.
Firefighters from Wareham and Bourne assisted at the scene, along with Wareham EMS, Wareham Police and the Onset Water Department. The Marion Fire Department provided station coverage during the incident.
No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
