The Onset Fire Department extinguished a structure fire at a home at 6 Pearl Ave. on Jan. 24.

Just after 2 p.m., the department received calls about a fire. An occupant of the home was able to temporarily keep the fire in check on a rear exterior wall by using a garden hose.

Back-up quickly arrived, and the fire was brought under control by crews using one hose line.

The Onset Fire Department reminded residents in a Facebook post to always citizens to properly dispose of ash including from cigarettes and chimneys.

No one was injured, and the structure sustained only minor damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but is believed to be accidental.

Assistance was provided at the scene by Wareham Fire, Wareham Emergency Medical Services, and Wareham Police. The Bourne Fire Department provided station coverage.
