Onset Fouth of July Fireworks cancelled for 2020

Apr 16, 2020

The Onset Bay Association has cancelled the Fourth of July Fireworks for this year.

The association’s board of directors was first asked by the fireworks company, Pyrotecnico, to choose another date in 2020, but the association felt it was unlikely members would be able to raise the more than $30,000 in time for the event as many fundraising events have been cancelled or postponed.

Additionally, they acknowledged that many town departments are overstretched in responding to the pandemic, and the town has advised the association that the strained resources could impact large events later in the year.
Finally, the association wrote, the possibility of postponing the event before having to cancel the second date would be “the biggest disappointment of all.”

Postponing to 2021 will give us time to prepare and raise the necessary funds for the BEST FIREWORKS EVER next year!” the association wrote.

The association’s many other events are still up in the air.

All donations that have been made to the fireworks fund will go to the newly scheduled July 3, 2021 date. Payments towards other events will be honored whenever the events happen.

The association expressed gratitude for donations and new and renewed memberships, which allow the association to keep the lights on and continue work planning other events.
