Onset man arrested in Shawnee Drive stabbing
An Onset man is charged with assault to murder after he allegedly stabbed a 22-year-old South Plymouth man on Shawnee Drive during the early morning hours of Sunday, June 9.
Dominick Alves of 291 Onset Ave., Apartment C, is also charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, two counts of assault and battery, and possession of a "Class B" substance.
Wareham Police and members of the State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section arrested Alves at his home at approximately 6 a.m. on Tuesday, where they also found him to be in possession of a "small amount of crack cocaine," police said.
Wareham Police and EMS workers found John Roche, 22, of South Plymouth lying on Shawnee Drive on Sunday with two to three stab wounds in his back, according to police.
Police say the stabbing was the result of an argument between "at least two males" that originated at a "large house party" at 9 Shawnee Drive.
"The victim is in stable condition at Rhode Island Hospital," police said.
Alves is being held in lieu of $25,000 cash bail until July 8, and had his bail on an unrelated case out of New Bedford District Court revoked, according to court clerks.
Just two days before the incident, Alves was a speaker at his Wareham Jr./Sr. Cooperative School graduation, where he thanked his teachers for helping him.
The investigation is ongoing.
