Opinion: Sidewalk artists, a poem
This poem was inspired by the author’s experience at the Onset Bay Association’s sidewalk chalk festival, held Saturday, Aug. 17.
Sidewalk artists from all around make their way to Onset, Mass,
Knowing with chalk in hand and their canvasses won’t last.
The young, the old and all ages in between,
Artists are gathered to create their own scenes.
Good music, positive energy — this festival is a blast.
The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine was such a delight,
But the most common theme was the various marine life.
Even though turtles and fishes dominated the walkway,
It was the sunflowers ,all so bright, that lit up the day.
Others, like The West is Wild, were simply out of sight.
It was the rainbow fish that seem to come to life.
With the red skies, a hero will rise to display a woman’s might.
The pineapple, being twice the size, was done all so very well,
Yet all of the sidewalk artists certainly have their stories to tell.
Welcome to Onset and enjoy the good life.
