Parking program returns to Onset May 1

Apr 30, 2015

Friday, May 1, marks the beginning of the 2015 Onset Parking Permit Program, the second season of the residential parking plan in Onset.

The program was designed last year to protect residential parking on the streets near the beaches in Onset. After immense community feedback, the Board of Road Commissioners made a number of adjustments to the program before its reimplementation this season.

The parking sticker for residents will cost $10 this year, and is already available in the Harbormaster's Office at the the Multi-Service Center.

The affected streets are the streets south of Onset Avenue between West Boulevard and Prospect Avenue, and most of the residential streets north of Onset Avenue in Onset Village.

The free 24-hour guest passes are still available at the Onset Pier. Each resident is also allowed up to four seasonal guest passes for $5 each. They can keep those in their home and use them whenever they have guests during the entire parking program season, which runs until Oct. 31.

The program would be in effect from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., which is generally the same hours of operation as the parking kiosks.

The kiosks also take effect beginning May 1. There are pay kiosks for parking at Onset Pier, along Onset and Union Avenues, at the Temple Lot and at Shell Point.

The town launched a new website this season with information, including a map, on the parking program, called www.parkwareham.com.
