Peter Murphy, 60
Peter M. Murphy, 60, of Onset, died Tuesday, Sept. 4 at Tobey Hospital in Wareham.
Born in Wareham, he was the son of Barbara C. (Cutler) and Michael D. Murphy of Onset. A graduate of Wareham High School, Class of 1976, he attended Stonehill College in Easton.
Peter worked for the Onset Water Department and was a call firefighter for the Onset Fire Department. He then worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Wareham before working as dispatcher for many years for the Wareham Police Department. He retired in 2017.
He served two terms as water commissioner for the Onset Water Department, was a member of the Wareham Police Association and a member of the Wareham-New Bedford Lodge of Elks.
An amateur artist, he enjoyed drawing and painting. Peter also loved watching Red Sox baseball and Patriots football. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandson Jordan.
He is survived by his daughter, Shannen L. Fisher of Onset; his parents, Barbara C. (Cutler) and Michael D. Murphy of Onset; his brother, David M. Murphy and his wife Gigi of Carver; his grandson, Jordan Sullivan of Onset; his niece and nephew, Meghan and Jacob Murphy; his aunt and uncle, Ray and Katy Antell of Wareham and many other cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Sunday, Sept. 9 at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway, Wareham from 3 to 6 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 6 p.m.
