Phyllis Althea Westgate, 99
Phyllis Althea (Bromley) Westgate of East Wareham passed away peacefully on August 21st. She would have celebrated her 100th birthday on October 10.
She was born in Providence, Rhode Island, in 1913. She was the daughter of Harlan L. and Susan (Lamb) Bromley. She married Benjamin M. Westgate of East Wareham.
She is survided by her son, Ronald W. Westgate and his wife, Mary. Her daughter, Marion L. Thornton predeceased her.
Phyllis graduated from New Bedford High School in 1931. She worked at Newman's Lady's Store, Cornwell's gift department, the Wareham Cooperative Bank for 24 years, and Smith and Neil Jewelry Store. She was also the first employee of Grey Oaks Gift Shop.
In addition to her son, she is survived by her grandchildren, Jon Kevin Thornton and his wife, Glory; Jac Bryan Thornton and his wife, Robin; Jana Lynn Kaiser and her husband, Kenneth; Jeffrey Wayne and his wife, Emily Jane;, Keith A. Westgate and his wife, Candace; Karl A. Westgate; Kenneth A. Westgate and his wife, Martha. She is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren, a brother, Harlan L. Bromley,and a sister, Elizabeth Holmquist. A sister and two brothers predeceased her.
A celebration of her life will be held on what would have been her 100th birthday, October 10, at the First Congregational Church, 5 Gibbs Avenue, Wareham, at 2 p.m. Burial will be private.
