Three New Bedford teens and two juveniles were arrested on Saturday, January 21, after police discovered the vehicle they were traveling in was reported stolen and a further search revealed cocaine and alcohol.

Wareham Police Officer Ryan Gomes conducted a random license plate query on a 1991 Toyota Previa, which was traveling on Cranberry Highway near the Route 195 overpass at roughly 1 a.m.

Police said in a statement that the occupants of the vehicle "had varying accounts of who owned the vehicle and how they came to be passengers."

A search of the vehicle revealed an open container of alcohol and five small bags of cocaine "packaged for distribution," police said.

The driver of the vehicle, 18-year-old Manuel Alvarez, was unlicensed and had outstanding warrants, according to police. A passenger, 18-year-old Angel Vargas, also had outstanding warrants.

In addition to Alvarez and Vargas, 17-year-old Noel Carrion and two juvenile passengers were arrested. Each was charged with receiving stolen property, a motor vehicle; possession of a "Class B" substance with intent to distribute; minor in possession of alcohol.
