Police charge both men involved in double-stabbing incident

May 23, 2012

Two men were injured and both have been charged in a double-stabbing that occurred in Onset around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Christopher Corey Turner, 28, of 298 Onset Ave. was arrested after being treated at Tobey Hospital for injuries he sustained during an altercation with 37-year-old Trayce Crew of Onset, according to Wareham Police.

Turner was charged with assault with intent to kill and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon -- a knife.

Crew has been charged with assault and battery.

Crew suffered stab wounds in at least three areas of his body and was transported to Tobey Hospital before being med-flighted to Boston, according to police.

He was released from Brigham and Women's Hospital on May 25, according to a spokesperson from Brigham and Women's Hospital.

The incident occurred on Onset Avenue the area of Zarahemla Road, across the street from Turner's home, according to police.

According to witness accounts documented in the police report, Crew was sitting in the driver's seat of a white Mercedes vehicle and Turner was talking to Crew through the passenger window while standing on the sidewalk.

Crew then got out of the car, approached Turner, and the two started fighting, according to the police report.

An eyewitness reported that Turner had a "black object" in his hand that looked like a knife, according to the police report.

During the fight, one of Turner's relatives threw a cup of coffee at Crew and tried to break up the fight, according to the police report.

After the two separated, the relative took the knife to hide it, the police report said. The two began to argue once again and the fight continued, according to the police report.

The men were approximately 100 feet from each other, each requiring immediate medical attention, when police arrived at the scene.

Wareham EMS and Onset Fire also responded to the scene.

Crew asserted that Turner had stabbed him during the course of the fight, according to the police report.

The police found $1,240 worth of cash on Turner, according to the police report. During a later search of Turner's residence, police also found a bag of marijuana, according to the police report.

Turner was arraigned at the Wareham District Court on May 24, according to court records, and was released on May 24 on $5,000 cash bail.

Turner has been ordered to have no contact with Crew and to stay away from his residence, according to court records.

Robert Galibois, attorney for Turner, said during an interview that his client acted in self-defense.

"Mr. Turner was doing what he had to do to defend himself from being attacked," Galibois said.

Galibois made note of a large gash on Turners head that would have required a weapon, as well as wounds on Turner's hands that were consistent with self-defense.

A spokesperson for the prosecution in the case, the Plymouth County's District Attorney's office, declined to comment at this time.
