Police looking for suspect in Wareham stabbing
Police are looking for 27-year-old Frank Villagran of Providence, RI in connection with the stabbing of a 32-year-old woman visiting the apartment complex on 815 Main Street in Wareham.
Wareham police responded to a call from the victim on Tuesday, March 6 at approximately 11 p.m. The victim reported that she had been stabbed with a knife once in the abdomen area by her boyfriend during a domestic argument, according to a police statement.
Officer Dean Decas noticed the suspect, who left the scene in a vehicle before the arrival of the police, operating a dark colored Nissan Maxima as he was attempting to enter onto Route 195 westbound from Route 28, according to the police.
The vehicle was stopped, but abruptly sped off after a brief conversation with Officer Decas, and headed westbound toward New Bedford. Wareham units pursued the vehicle until New Bedford officers became involved after the suspect fled from the vehicle in the area of the Route 18 exit, police said.
Although the suspect has not been apprehended, a warrant has been applied for the arrest of Frank Villagran of 227 Sackett Street in Providence, RI. Villagran has been charged with attempted murder, assault & battery by means of a dangerous weapon (knife), along with various motor vehicle offenses, according to the police.
The female victim was first treated by officers and EMS personnel at the scene of the stabbing, and then treated at Tobey Hospital before being transported to a Boston hospital by a med-flight helicopter for further treatment. At this time, the victim is listed as being in stable condition with a knife wound that has been determined to be non-life threatening, police said.
The investigation into this matter is being conducted by the Wareham Police Department Detective Division and is currently ongoing. Any further information with regard to this incident will be updated as it becomes available.
