Police nab alleged safe stealers

Wareham Police arrested four men on Dec. 6 after a Little Harbor homeowner discovered that a safe was stolen from his residence.

The victim indicated that he heard loud hammering noises coming from his back yard, and thought it may be connected to the break-in.

Officer Dean Decas responded to the call, and investigated the wooded area behind the victim's home, where he observed two men with hammers and screwdrivers attempting to break open a safe. Decas detained the individuals until help arrived, and the victim then identified the safe as the one that was stolen from his home..

Christopher Furtado, 21, of 9 Dowd Ave. Wareham and Scott Rodrigues, 34, of 1 Cape Pine Rd. in Buzzards Bay were placed under arrest at the scene.

Furtado is charged with Unarmed Burglary, Larceny From A Building, Malicious Destruction of Property Over $250, Possession of Burglarious Tools, Breaking and Entering Into a Depository, and Receiving Stolen Property Over $250.

Rodrigues is charged with Possession of Burglarious Tools, Breaking and Entering Into a Depository, and Receiving Stolen Property Over $250.

Police detectives continued to investigate the break-in, and as a result, two more individuals were identified and located at the Silver Lake Motel on Cranberry Highway in Wareham several hours later. They were identified as Timothy Morrison, 20, of 6 Burgee Lane, Wareham, and Derek Westgate, 18, listing his address as the Silver Lake Motel, 3026 Cranberry Highway.

Morrison is charged with Unarmed Burglary, Larceny From A Building, and Malicious Destruction of Property Over $250. Westgate is charged with Receiving Stolen Property Over $250.

All four men were held on bail overnight at the Wareham Police station and transported to Wareham 4th District Court the following morning for arraignment.
