The Wareham Police Department has released an artist’s rendition of the man suspected of impersonating an officer and assaulting a Wareham woman with a flashlight earlier this month.

According to police the man is described as a white male, approximately 40-years-old, 5’8”, and weighs approximately 200 pounds.

The victim described the man as having dark hair and a prominent Adam’s apple.

The victim was traveling on Main Street in West Wareham on Jan. 5 when she was signaled to stop by a mid-sized SUV or pick-up truck with a blue light in the windshield, police said.

When the victim pulled to the side of the road, a man came to the driver's side of her vehicle, told her that she had a defective tail light, and asked that she produce her driver's license and step out of the car, police said.

"The female reported that she then felt that the male was not a police officer and began to drive away, at which time the male struck her face with a flashlight, causing a minor injury," police said.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with any information is asked to call the Wareham Police Department's anonymous tip line at 508-291-2300, or call the Detective Division at 508-295-1206.
