Psychic Fair brings 'medium' crowd to Fearing Tavern

Jun 10, 2017

The historic Fearing Tavern held 11 psychics and mediums Saturday, reading palms, tarot cards and crystal balls to raise money for community organizations.

The Psychic Fair was held in the “ancient, haunted” tavern to promote the Wareham Historical Society, said Kathleen Hoffman, pastor of the First Spiritualist Church of Onset.

Half of all proceeds from the event, held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, were donated to the church and the Wareham Historical Society.

“These two historical groups are coming together to educate people and help them understand about life after death,” Hoffman said.

One satisfied customer took part in three separate readings Saturday. Betty Lepore said attending psychic fairs and talking with mediums is her therapy. She asked Hoffman to communicate with her brother, who died at a young age.

“I said, ‘Tell my brother to give me some lottery numbers,’” Lepore said. After having success with this at a psychic fair in April and winning over $500, Lepore said she is excited to try the new lottery numbers she received.

“I wasn’t as much a believer, but I am now,” Lepore said.

Hoffman, who has been the pastor of the First Spiritualist Church since 2000, said she hopes the fair will bring “comfort and solace” to people and educate them about psychics. Typically, several hundred people attend a Psychic Fair.

“Once people realize the spirituality of life, life becomes easier,” Hoffman said.
