Public health official presents emergency route map
Health Agent Bob Ethier along with IT Director Matt Underhill presented an emergency travel route map to Selectmen Tuesday night.
Ethier is a member of the Plymouth County Emergency Preparedness Coalition, a regional part of a state Department of Public Health initiative to help municipalities deal with health related emergencies and events.
One of the things the state wants towns to accomplish is to develop a map where everyone in town can safely get to a Emergency Dispensing Site --in Wareham's case, the Wareham Middle School-- to acquire necessary medication in the event of a public health disaster.
The map divides the town into four quadrants and shows the different routes people in certain areas of town should take to get to the Middle School.
Ethier said the town is in contact with the Department of Public Health on a 24-hour basis and receives daily updates on a number of public health issues. He said they would notify the town in the event of an emergency. Underhill said the town would notify the public via its emergency calling system.
Ethier said the map would be put on the town website in the near future.
"If something happens' we're prepared," he said.
