Members of the public are invited to a tour of the old Decas school building from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 23 at the school, 760 Main St.
The tour is hosted by the Decas School Steering Committee. The committee aims to explore possible uses of the school building.
Citizen’s petitions now on the Spring Town Meeting agenda propose the space be used for a Decas Community Center. Lead petitioner Leslie Edwards Davis submitted two citizen’s petitions, one to allow the Decas Steering Committee to present at Town Meeting, and one to authorize several actions relating to the former school building.
That petition asks for access to the building and that the Council on Aging be moved into the school building by July 1, 2022. Several members of the steering committee have shared their support for making the school building a community center with room for the Council on Aging’s senior activities. The group “Decas for Wareham” is also pushing for the community center to become a reality.
