'Q' marries 'U' in morning ceremony at Minot Forest Elementary
The letters "Q" and "U" were married in a small, but intimate morning ceremony at Minot Forest Elementary on Friday, April 12.
Principal Joan Seamans officiated the wedding, held at 9:30 a.m. in the school's cafeteria.
After learning that the letters Q and U together make the "kw" sound, and memorizing a whole lot of "qu" words, the young ladies and gentlemen in Suzanne Allen's and Maggie Kuppens' kindergarten classes partnered for the ceremony.
The girls, who represented the letter "Q," wore fancy dresses, and the boys, who represented the letter "U," donned ties.
Holding each other's hands, the couples slowly made their way down the hallway to the cafeteria.
"They will be together forever to spell words like, 'quarter,'" Seamans said of the letters, before listing a whole bunch of other "qu" words, such as "quack" and "quarrel."
And there were vows, of course.
"Do you take Q to be your lawfully wedded partner," Seamans asked the U's, "to have and to hold in reading and spelling…"
The little voices rang out: "I do!" and "Yes!!"
The U's agreed to support Q in all words, among other important responsibilities.
At the end of the ceremony, the Q's and the U's high-fived, solidifying their partnerships.
The ring bearer then doled out ring-shaped lollipops to all.
"It was the most beautiful wedding I've ever seen," kindergarten paraprofessional Mr. Murphy announced during the reception that followed in one of the kindergarten classrooms, as the Q's and U's munched on cupcakes and juice. "I never thought I'd see the day when Q would marry U…"
After the reception, the kindergartners boogied on the dance floor in the adjacent classroom, before returning to their studies.
