Ready to go: Kids celebrate 'Kick off to Kindergarten'
A new generation of kids celebrated the beginning of school at the annual Kick off to Kindergarten at the Onset Band Shell on Thursday.
"I think this is fabulous," said Ryan Racette of Big Ryan's Tall Tales, who was there to entertain the kids with stories and puppets. "What a great way to get the community together."
Kids heading in to kindergarten at Minot Forest and Decas Elementary schools came to the Band Shell to meet a couple of teachers, as well as the new superintendent, and to learn a kindergarten chant before Racette hit the stage.
Mary Morgan, Early Education Coordinator, was there to introduce the kids to the idea of entering school.
"It's an event to welcome children and families to the school system," she explained.
Underscoring that sentiment was Superintendent Kimberly Shaver-Hood, who addressed the group of kids and parents that assembled at the Band Shell on a chill overcast afternoon.
"We want to make this a wonderful partnership and a wonderful experience for your children," said Shaver-Hood.
The kids seemed excited while running around the Band Shell before the event got started, and laughing like crazy at Racette's act.
Hopefully, they bring the same enthusiasm to the classroom when kindergarten begins on September 10!
