The burgers weren’t the only things sizzling.

A small mulch fire at the Red Robin restaurant at Wareham Crossing caused $30,000 in damages on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 17.

The fire started in a mulch pile pressed up against the outside of the building, according to the Wareham Fire Department. An employee opened a door near the mulch and smoke drifted into the building, triggering the alarm.

Some of the fire spread to the building itself before firefighters extinguished it.

“It was a small fire that had the potential to be a very large fire,” said Assistant Fire Chief Patrick Haskell.

There were no reported injuries.
