Reported gas leak evacuates East Wareham Cumberland Farms

A reported gas leak at the Cumberland Farms at 1 Depot St. in East Wareham Monday morning resulted in customers and staff being evacuated until the source of the leak is discovered.

According to emergency broadcasts, the leak was reported just after 9 a.m. with employees saying the odor of gas was strongest in a storeroom.

Fire officials called in National Grid and the town’s gas inspector to investigate the leak. The gas main to the building was turned off, affecting neighboring businesses China Chef and Santoro’s Pizza.

Emergency broadcasts stated that gas lines servicing the plaza must be inspected. Wareham Fire cleared the scene at 10 a.m.
