Rezendes reaches 1,000

becomes only the 6th Vikings boys basketball player to score 1000 career points
Jan 30, 2010

Wareham High School senior Jordan Rezendes accomplished Friday what only 5 other former Vikings varsity boys basketball players can claim:  He scored his 1000th point for the team.

In the second quarter of Friday's contest versus the Apponequet Lakers, Rezendes put in the final necessary points and brought the crowd to its feet.  Congratulated by many team members along the way, he headed right for the bench area to the waiting team co-captain Patrick Murphy who gave him a big hug.  Mr. Rezendes was then presented with a certificate of "Viking Pride" achievement by athletic director Tina Clark and head coach Kevin Brogioli.  The celebration didn't stop there, however as members of Rezendes' family came on to the floor to share in the celebration.

In all, about five minutes was spent celebrating the accomplishment.  Then the Vikings went right back to work, finishing the game with a 102-69 victory.

"I'm real excited for 1,000," Rezendes said afterwards, adding that he was especially glad that his family were able to join him on the court to be honored.   He wished to also thank his uncle, Walsh Jordan, a former European-league player who lives in Texas.   Rezendes visited his uncle for a three-week, basketball-intensive trip during sophomore year and said his playing dramatically improved.

As for his next goal, Rezendes was explicit.

"Our next milestone will be State Championship!"
