Riders to remember father and son in Onset
A father and son will be remembered by hundreds of motorcyclists during the 14th annual Rick Graham Diabetes Awareness Memorial ride, set for Sept. 18.
The ride is held in memory of former Boston firefighter Rick Graham who suffered a diabetic-related heart attack while riding his motorcycle in 2001.
This year, the ride will also honor Graham’s son, Richard, who passed away away this winter due to complications from a bone marrow disease.
Like his father, Richard was also an avid motorcyclist.
Bikers will ride 50 miles of back roads starting at 11 a.m. from the Boston Firefighters Union Hall, 55 Hallet St., Boston.
Registration starts at 9 a.m. at the same location on Sept. 18.
The ride ends in the Dudley L. Brown VFW in Onset where there will be music, raffles and food.
The donation fee for a rider and passenger is $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Children 12 and under ride for $10. The rain date is Sept. 25. Half the proceeds will benefit the American Diabetes Association. The other half is used to help the families of bikers who have passed away.
