Robert E. Atwood, 78, of Wareham, died Thursday, January 21, 2021 at the Hope Health Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, RI.

Born in Biddeford, ME, he was the son of the late Ellsworth and Mary (Robinson) Atwood. A longtime Wareham resident, Mr. Atwood worked as a maintenance man for Marr Crane and Rigging, and a mechanic for Edgewood Bogs, Mann Farms, Middleboro Fire Apparatus and Maxim Motors.

Mr. Atwood served in the U.S. Navy from 1963 to 1965 and was last assigned to the USS Fearless. He was a member of the Sippican Rod and Gun Club, and the American Legion in Plymouth. He also enjoyed fishing and his antique cars; a 1917 Model T and 1928 Model A pick-up truck.

He is survived by his fiancé, Donna Stockman of Wareham; his son, Robert E. Atwood, Jr. of Onset; his daughters, Carolyn Brown of Royalston, and Katherine Maxim of Wareham; his step-children, Yvonne Braley of Whitman and Sean Stockman of W. Bridgewater; his sister, Linda Dauphinais; 17 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, the late Kathleen Wolcott.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy. (Rt. 28), Wareham on Wed., Jan. 27th from 5 – 7 PM. (Appropriate COVID-19 protocol will be observed including the use of face masks, social distancing and wait times in line due to temporary limited capacity.) Funeral services and burial on Thursday will be private.
