Robert W. Burns, 81, of Bonita Springs, FL, died Monday, August 23, 2021, at Gulf Coast Medical Center.

He was born in Boston on Sept. 19, 1939, and grew up in Hyde Park, MA he was the son of the late William and Helen (Strout) Burns. Mr. Burns worked for the MBTA for many years. He started as an operator, then instructor and retired as chief inspector in 2001.

Mr. Burns also served in the U.S. Marine Corps Second Recon Division from 1959 to 1963. He was a life member of the V.F.W. and American Legion, a member of MBTA Inspectors Union Local 600, a member and past trustee of the Wareham/New Bedford Lodge of Elks #73, a member and past state president of the Weymouth Eagles Aerie #2899, and a member of the Moose International Bonita Springs Lodge #1454. He also enjoyed golf and boating.

He is survived by his long-time partner, Charlotte Orcutt of Bonita Springs, FL; his children, Roberta Burns of Falmouth, Robert W. Burns, Jr. of Akron, OH, Priscilla Haun of Middleboro, and Michelle Perry of Marion; his step-children, Karen Bushey of Kingston and Cheryl Mason of N. Ft. Myers, FL; and his brother, Richard L. Brown of Dedham; three grandchildren, Richard Murray, Anthony Coletti, and Nathan Perry. He was predeceased by his brothers, Michael, Paul and Arthur. 

Relatives and friends are invited to visit at Chapman Funerals & Cremations – Wareham, 2599 Cranberry Hwy. (Rt. 28), Wareham on Sunday, Sept. 19, 2021, from 2 – 4 p.m. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Monday, Sept. 20, 2021, at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA at 1:30 p.m. Please arrive at the cemetery by 1:15 p.m.
