Rockbody Training offers athlete-focused workouts for kids and adults
Couch potatoes and video game aficionados, beware! Rockbody Training aims to get you moving.
Focused on youth athletic training and adult boot camp and obstacle training, Rockbody Training owners Beth Smith of Rochester and Liz Pothel of Wareham are taking a combined 30 years of experience and bringing something fresh to the area.
Located at The Cage indoor facility at 265 Wareham Road in Marion, Rockbody Training focuses on speed, agility, endurance and overall athletic conditioning.
“After seeing nothing in the area with kid-specific training, we knew this was the best place,” says Smith. “We’re staying ahead of the trends and can consistently improve these athletes’ techniques.”
Pothel says there is a real need to keep kids active.
“Everyone plays video games these days,” she says. “We want to help them get out and get healthy. No matter what kid comes in, we can target their strengths and hobbies and work with them to make the training fun.”
There are a few things that make Rockbody unique.
The use of The Cage provides a large space for a variety of exercises and activities. Between 20 and 30 people can fit in the classes. In addition to the normal sport-related training, Rockbody also uses the TRX suspension training system. This uses body weight as resistance to build strength and endurance.
Dan Sylvia, owner of The Cage and a Wareham resident, says Rockbody will be a huge benefit for the area.
“Beth and Liz approached me about 12 weeks ago for the idea,” he says. “I think it’s great. You have a number of big high schools in the area, but nothing like this. It’s a great place for athletes to improve their technique and for anyone to come and stay fit.”
Rockbody is the duo’s first venture into entrepreneurship.
“It’s stressful and challenging,” Smith says. “But it’s a price we are willing to pay. We’re already getting the word out.”
Pothel says their expertise will also help Rockbody be successful.
“We’re both known in the area, and we have a lot of knowledge for this field,” she says.
As the weather gets warmer, Rockbody will use an outdoor obstacle training course for adults.
“Now that we have a home base, things are really going to pick up,” Smith says.
