School district offers facilities to residents without power
In the wake of Tropical Storm Irene which left many residents without power, Wareham Public Schools is offering the use of locker rooms to members of the community who would like to use the facilities to take a hot shower.
The showers at Wareham Middle School and Wareham High School are available to the community during the before- or after-school hours.
Cell phones and other electronic devices may also be charged during the same time frame.
If you would like to use the facilities, call Wareham Middle School Principal Howard Gilmore at 508-291-3550 or Wareham High School Principal Scott Palladino at 508-291-3510.
School began for grades one through 12 this week. Superintendent Dr. Barry Rabinovitch said in a statement that his staff is prepared to meet the needs of students.
"I would like to thank all our staff for a great beginning of school," Rabinovitch said. "Despite the fact that some families and staff still have no electricity or have other storm-related issues at their homes, staff has come to school prepared to educate and nurture our youth."
Rabinovitch said he has asked principals to be understanding about any absences caused by storm-related issues "in recognition of the fact that some families may have had to relocate or have no basic services in their homes."
