Science lessons on parade at Decas Elementary

Classmates cheered as second graders at John W. Decas Elementary School walked through the halls for their own, scaled-down version of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Wednesday morning.
The third annual parade capped a couple weeks worth of science lessons that ended with the celebration.
“This was an engineering design challenge, and teachers picked five designs for the classes to show off,” said Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics teacher Melissa Dionne.
Dionne said in addition to lessons on air flow and engineering, students learned about Tony Sarg, who designed the balloons first used in the Macy’s parade back in 1928.
She noted the parade was a good way to send off all students the day before Thanksgiving.
