Select Board recommends Town Meeting fund capital improvement projects

Apr 18, 2023

The Select Board recommends that Town Meeting vote to use $2.7 million in available funds on various improvement projects.

The Select Board unanimously voted to make the recommendations at its meeting on Tuesday, April 18.

The largest single item in the funding package is $720,000 to pay for the new boilers that have been installed at Wareham High School. Town Administrator Derek Sullivan estimated the full cost of the project to be $1.2 million, but the town was partially reimbursed by the Massachusetts School Building Authority.

The police department would receive $75,000 for 12 tasers, as well as body cameras for a new pilot program.

The vote at Town Meeting will also decide whether the town should borrow $650,000 to pay for a replacement patrol boat for the Department of Natural Resources, which Sullivan said is badly needed.

The loan would be paid off using harbor permit service fees over the next seven to 10 years.
