Select Board will potentially create vice chair position

Jul 18, 2023

The Select Board underwent a reorganization that includes a potential new position for a vice chair at its meeting Tuesday, July 18.

Select Board Chair Judith Whiteside said she and Clerk Tricia Wurts discussed the importance of “creating a bench,” where members can step aside and let others learn the different roles of the board.

Whiteside said this is to ensure each member can understand the different jobs necessary for a committee to function.

Wurts will be stepping away from being clerk — a position she held for over a year, according to Whiteside.

Whiteside was unanimously elected as chair.

Select Board member Jared Chadwick was unanimously elected as clerk.

Whiteside said she would still like Wurts to have at least an “honorary title — based on the fact that she stepped onto the battlefield with no training.”

She suggested the title of vice chair, which the rest of the board agreed with.

However, the board decided to wait to vote Wurts into the position until a description of the role is written.

A draft will be written and voted on at a future meeting.

To Wurts, Whiteside said, “I just want to say thank you to you, Mrs. Wurts. You have done a very respectable job in tough, tough situation.”
