Selectmen approve new used-car lot

Feb 1, 2017

A new used-car lot is coming to Cranberry Highway.

Joseph Yousseff, the owner of GIA Auto Sales, came before the Selectmen Tuesday night, requesting an application for a Class II license, which allows for the sale of used cars. Yousseff recently purchased the property intended for the used car lot at 2088 Cranberry Highway, which was Big Joe's Car Wash. He has owned the property across the street, a Sunoco gas station, for the past 20 years. At the gas station, Yousseff has maintained seven spots for selling or leasing used cars, and has “done reasonably good business” in the past, according to his lawyer Leonard Bello.

Bello explained that Yousseff was planning to expand the used car sales albeit under a separate legal entity than the Sunoco station. The sales lot will hold a maximum of 22 used cars. There will no longer be a car wash – the area where it stands will become a car display area, according to Yousseff’s plans.

Requirements for a Class II license include a separate business office on the premises, maintaining a record book for used cars approved by the Registry of Motor Vehicles and posting a sign displaying the type of business. Yousseff maintained that the office on the premises will be located near the display area, near where car wash is now.

The application was unanimously approved by the selectmen.
