Selectmen deny bond reduction request from All-American Assisted Living Facility

The Wareham Board of Selectmen voted against granting a bond reduction for the All-American Assisted Living Facility on Tuesday night.

The bond originally put in place for the facility was $90,000. This was to ensure the construction would proceed as agreed upon and “hold their feet to the fire,” Chair Peter Teitelbaum said.

After the bond lapsed, the facility requested a bond reduction to $7,500 because they completed most of the work that needs to be done and things are currently being finished up.

They still need to repair an eroded slope, remove sediment and place loam and seed in the drainage swale to help with yard drainage. Teitelbaum said this work is valued at around $5,000 and could be finished in one day with a landscaping crew.

Selectman Alan Slavin said the facility disregarded their legal responsibility by allowing the bond to lapse.

“I don’t like it when someone doesn’t follow the rules,” Slavin said.

Teitelbaum said the board does not make it a practice to issue bonds in segments because the town “has a bad history with bonds.”

The board voted unanimously to deny the request for the bond reduction.
