Selectmen encourage better communication between town, residents
With a newly elected Chair, the Board of Selectmen discussed several important announcements and upcoming initiatives during their meeting on Tuesday night.
Among these include participation needed in offices and during town-wide events, and enhanced communication between departments and the public.
Cooperation: Chair Judith Whiteside urged the Board to "make a commitment to check in with the committees at least once a month."
Minutes: The push for agendas and minutes to be available to the public and online has been motioned by Whiteside.
"The intent is to have more open communication between the boards and committees and the public," said Whiteside.
Participation: The Affordable Housing Trust "needs bodies."
Selectman Peter Teitelbaum explained that every June 30, appointments expire and those in office are appointed for three years.
"There are no lifetime appointments," said Teitelbaum. "Typically, people do get reappointed."
He urged people to apply for positions and said new applicants will be considered.
Volunteers: Charlotte Furnace Road currently has no volunteers for "Don't Trash Wareham," which will be held this Saturday and Sunday. Anyone in the area is encouraged to help pick up the litter and trash on the road in a community-wide effort.
In other news during the meeting, an application for increased inflammable fluids brought forth by Roby's Propane Gas was granted. The gas company can now hold up to 220,000 gallons of inflammable fluids.
Town Moderator Claire Smith reminded citizens of the upcoming Town Meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday night, and Special Town Meeting at 7:30 p.m. She encourages voters to check-in at 6:45 and says that it will "take a while to check-in."
The Friends of the Free Library said their movie night and film screening of "The Finest Hours" on April 13 was a success. Over 200 people attended the screening. They look forward to their next fundraiser: a dinner with author of "The Finest Hours" Michael Tougias. The event is on May 12 at the Marriot TownPlace Suites at 7 p.m. and tickets are $100.
