Aug 20, 2010

The Board of Selectmen was down two members when it met briefly Thursday. The meeting was rescheduled from Tuesday to comply with Open Meeting laws.

Selectmen Brenda Eckstrom, who was attending another meeting, and Steve Holmes, who was away on business, were absent. Town Administrator Mark Andrews was also not in attendance. Selectmen Chair Jane Donahue said he was out of town.

The Selectmen completed the following town business:

  • Approved a one-day liquor license for the Williams Gifford Committee, for State Representative Susan Williams Gifford's annual fundraiser, scheduled for August 26.
  • Approved an inflammable fluids license for the keeping and storage of propane for JKS Village. The license will allow heating and cooking fuel for the new affordable housing, located at the 815 Main Street property.
  • Approved the use of town roads for the Dick Melloni Youth Foundation bicycle ride, which is scheduled for September 19.
  • Approved the use of the Merchants Way Train Depot for the third annual Polar Swan Express. The event, sponsored by the Wareham Village Association, is scheduled for November 27 and 28 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Approved the use of town roads for the annual Wareham Village Association Christmas Parade, scheduled for December 11 at 3 p.m.
  • Appointed residents David Begley and Richard Wheeler to the Clean Water Committee. Begley was also appointed to the Marine Resources Commission.
  • Approved an extension of the Parkwood Beach sewer contract with P. Gioioso & Sons to the end of October. The contract expired August 6. The extension will not cost the town any additional funds. Final paving, clean-up, and landscaping needs to be completed in that neighborhood.

Additionally, the Selectmen heard from A.D. Makepeace Company Senior Vice President James Kane, who advised the Board of plans to construct a traffic signal at Cranberry Highway and Lou Avenue for the company's mixed-use commercial development project, Rosebrook Park.

The Board of Selectmen will next meet on Tuesday, August 24.
