Selectmen meet for short time, approve Great Neck conservation restrictions
Nov 3, 2010
The Board of Selectmen held a brief Election Day meeting Tuesday, and took care of several orders of business.
- Selectmen approved four conservation restrictions and amended two existing restrictions, which will establish open space in Great Neck.
- Selectmen voted to forgo its option to purchase 9.27 acres of land north of Rosebrook Way in A.D. Makepeace's Rosebrook Business Park, which is currently under construction. This will help the company move forward with development.
- Town Administrator Mark Andrews said that 38 out of the 42 recommendations to improve operations provided to the town by the Massachusetts Department of Revenue have been completed.
- Andrews said that the Cranberry Commons Task Force, charged with helping to attract businesses to the site of the March warehouse fire on Cranberry Highway, has linked the owner of the shopping plaza with various developers who are interested in the location.
- Selectman Brenda Eckstrom pointed out that many business owners in town do not have business certificates on record with the Town Clerk. Nearly all businesses require the $40 certificate to operate. Eckstrom said she and Andrews are considering a period of amnesty, so owners who may not know that they need a certificate can get one without being fined for operating without one. Business owners could potentially be fined $300 for each month they operate without a certificate.
