Senator Marc Pacheco Awards $40,000 to The Council on Aging

State Senator Marc Pacheco awarded the Wareham Council on Aging $40,000 in funds on Tuesday, Oct. 18.

The funds were part of the budget authorization Pacheco had arranged for community support. Pacheco strived to aid demographics who were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, such as the elderly.

According to the Director of the Council on Aging, Sharon Rice, the use of the funds has yet to be determined. However, the Council on Aging staff are working to identify the biggest issues at hand and to apply the funds accordingly.

“Covid unmasked a lot of problems,” said Pacheco. One of these, he said, was seniors who are homebound due to the lingering effects of the pandemic.

Along with transportation, Pacheco suggested the funds could be used for a health fair, which could include a potential partnership among the Council on Aging, Tobey Hospital and other local organizations.
