Shooters Restaurant to close tonight

Dec 30, 2010

Shooters Restaurant Bar & Grill, located on Cranberry Highway since 2003, will serve its last pint tonight.

“We got caught up in a predatory lending scam," Hoban said. "Basically, [the lender] forced a family out of business in five years."

Due to the terms of his loan with Marlborough-based company LBM Financial, Hoban said he can no longer keep up with his expenses.

“This place does great business, but all the money goes to LBM," Hoban said. In addition to big-screen televisions, the sports bar features oftentimes scantily-clad waitresses and bartenders. (Thursday was “Lingerie Day,” and the waitstaff dressed the part.)

Hoban said he plans to file a lawsuit against LBM for "predatory lending." If the lawsuit pans out in his favor, Hoban said he hopes to reopen the sports bar in three to six months.

In a phone call Thursday afternoon, LBM Financial President Marchello Mallegni said that the accusation of predatory lending was "absolutely not true."

LBM’s lawyer, Phil Coppinger, responded to the accusations saying: “We’ll defend it in court … I don't see that it’s going to be a successful claim on his [Hoban’s] part.”

All of the employees at the Wareham location will be transferred to the Middleborough location, which was opened this year. That location is owned by Hoban’s family members, but is a different entity and is called Shooters Steakhouse.

“I want to keep my employees working,” Hoban said.
