Sophie Downs, 88, passed away on Dec. 11 at the Royal Taber Rehabilitation Center in New Bedford of natural causes. She was the loving wife for more than 60 years of marriage to George J Downs (deceased).

Born in South Boston, she was the daughter of Mary and Harold Overko. Sophie moved to East Wareham 25 years ago. Previously she raised her three children with George in Dedham.

Sophie was the loving mother of two sons, Charles Downs of East Wareham, and John Downs of Thompson, Connecticut; and her daughter, Patricia Crane of Cumberland, Rhode Island, and loving grandmother to her granddaughter, Hope Brennan of Cumberland, Rhode Island, and her great-grandchildren, Thomas, William, and Andrew Brennan. and survived by her nieces Barbara Johnson and Natalie Brennan of Florida. She was predeceased by three brothers, Michael Overko, Peter Overko and Walter Overko and loving sister Ann Michaluk.

A private family ceremony will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, where she will be laid to rest next to her loving husband George J. Downs.
