Spiritualists and Historical Society unite for Fair

Jul 19, 2015

While it might seem like an odd pairing, it was a successful partnership for the Wareham Historical Society and the First Spiritualist Church, when the groups hosted a Holistic Psychic Fair on Saturday afternoon.

"There's been a really great turnout," said Angela Dunham, president of the Wareham Historical Society.

The First Spiritualist Church held one of its semi-annual Holistic Fairs in two of the Historical Society buildings, the Methodist Meeting House on Main Street and the Fearing Tavern just a few steps away on Elm Street.

In the Meeting House there were many holistic vendors selling goods such as crystals, stones, jewelry, salt lamps, mediation cushions and more.

In the Fearing Tavern there were a dozen or so mediums giving readings to people. At a previous Psychic Fair, Rev. Kathleen Hoffman of the First Spiritualist Church said that the church helps people develop their spiritual gifts and enhance their skills.

Members of the Historical Society also dressed up in period attire at the Fearing Tavern, which was built in 1690 and is the oldest building under the auspices of the Historical Society.

The Fearing Tavern is open for docent-led tours on Saturdays and Sundays in the summer from 1 to 4 p.m.
