Mar 28, 2017

State Police are investigating a crash on I-495 in Wareham that left two people injured Tuesday afternoon, one seriously.

The single-car crash involved a 2016 Dodge Challenger, and it occurred just after 1:30 p.m. in I-495’s northbound lane, just past the I-195 interchange. Police said for reasons still under investigation, the car exited the highway into the median and struck a tree.

Police said the driver, a 30-year-old Hyannis man, was taken to Tobey Hospital with serious injuries. The passenger, a 29-year-old Barnstable woman, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with injuries that weren’t life threatening.

A police statement says the investigation is looking at excessive speed as a factor in the crash. This crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services Section. State Police were assisted on scene by Wareham Fire and EMS as well as MassDOT.
